Passing the Torch
#1
Dedicated with the utmost honor, respect and love.

(Song in my head: Stephen Sondheim - "Old Friends")

The kindling arrived --
sitting quietly
and not contrived --

It was delivered
most politely
while I shivered --

I played along
as you danced and sang
your sanguine song --

I was uncouth --
silent counterpoint
to your silent truth.

I would not have denied
if I had been asked --
but in silence I lied --

I never knew
that hateful kindling
was meant for you.

But fight I did
with another lie --
I never should have hid.

Then you struck the spark
not with open flames
but a chance remark --

Now you are aware
you have lit a fire
I am proud to share.

Aww. Heart
F! Be Proud! *cuddles and tickles*
And while I never really knew the one for whom this is written, to have had such a profound effect on you means I have the utmost respect and love for them.
Luv ya, Big F.

I'm having a hard time putting my finger on why I like this poem. I usually take that as a good sign, because there is something in it that touches deeply inside of me that I can't easily express, but the author has managed to do so. Thank you for writing this piece.
