Ascension Part 5: Prodigy
#1
For in this land of darkness there was nothing left to gain,
Soldiers came with weapons drawn she grit her teeth and stood,
Never had she fought before, but dancing seemed the same,
Axela flowed round steel blades struck each in soft manhood.

As soldiers fell before her blows she grasped a fallen sword,
Laughing as she cut them down, her smile became capricious,
Upon the crest of nearby hill a mage uttered a word,
But against Axela such attempts proved too ambitious.

With raised hand she grasped the fire her first attempt propitious,
The power of magic new to her and oh so natural yet,
Cutting down the Empires men turned Axela's thought seditious,
For this attack the Emperor now owed her a debt.

The power of the Empire was truly inhumane,

A rousing cheer of the tavern, but of course, a cautious one. We have heard the tale of the rise and fall of a hero already.

(I also like the imagery used, especially the grasp of fire and throwing it back. It is a fantasy element, so it could be literal, but again, there is something that makes that phrase transcendent; a very poetic way of stating a counter offensive.)

I do enjoy using language like that. I tend to intentionally write with multiple possible meanings. Part of the joy is seeing others interpretations.
