My thoughts on eating ass? Love it ^^ I don't really have that mental block you're describing, though I do make sure to make a quick visual inspection before taking the plunge. If it looks like I'm going to have a bad time, I direct my lips and tongue to my partner's genitals instead. Never had any complaints about that rule so far 
If there is a major thing I don't like about eating ass, it's my inability to see my partner's expression while doing it. I want to see how they react! Body language only tells part of the story.
