Edit Reason: Backstory.

Edit: Some backstory on this. You've probably never heard of this guy before, as he was part of a local music scene in my area of the US, and he passed away in 2006. There are two versions of this song, the original with more of his punk sarcasm. The other was an arrangement done by his brother Michael, a cellist. More introspective, more brooding. That's the version I linked in the title, and the version I was lucky enough to hear live some years ago. But either way, a powerful reminder of how modern society can corrupt values once held to be sacred.
"Scarecrow" by Gene Severens
He was heaven-sent for the hell-bent
To change the ways that the sinners went
A simple man with only good intent
They made a scarecrow that only man could invent
The wise men came bearing gifts of gold
And TV sets and bibles to be sold
Three kings, they never went away
They made a scarecrow that's twisted and turned away
Good intentions always come too late
And rebels turn to patriots given someone new to hate
You gotta pay -- pay -- pay for your appetite
Well ain't no scarecrow gonna tell you what's wrong or right
Now they fill my head with messages of love
And a better way -- a better way -- through some god above
And now they scared away -- they scared away the dove
They made a scarecrow that scares away the dove
They made a scarecrow that scares away the dove.
They made a scarecrow that scares away the dove.
