Tales by the pond
#23
Thistle lady
Episode 1: meet the queen
6 nations tournament, the european rugby championship, has begun. "Flower of Scotland" has always been my fave hymn
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daQCPz-pNGg).
Let's share a medieval story inspired by a Scottish lady (and maybe influenced by Monthy Python's Holy Grail, so my tone won't be so medieval)
Too bad I won't be able to write it down with the Scottish accent. I love the way they talk.

In the best fairy tales, there is always a castle: tall turrets, an intimidating moat and a breathtaking view.
This was a good one.
It was stationed cliffside above the stormy seas and surrounded by gardens and forests.
I'm a minstrel. I travel around. I hear stories and news in one place that I share in another, in exchange for food, shelter and some gold when I'm very lucky.
Usually, I don't go off track so much, but I wanted to see the sea, and there was a fine distillery to find. Then rain happened.
So here I am, cold, drenched, trying to get in. Luckily, I have a booming voice, so I make myself heard from the wall.
After some talking about swallows (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8Rn_f75UHs), I can get in. An old wizened, gray bearded, rusty chainmail clad soldier welcomes me.
"Hi master. Welcome to shareafantasy Castle."
"Thank you. I'm willing to entertain the owners of this place for some sheltering. Could you bring me to your boss?"
"Sure,  sure!  I guess the Queen will be happy to meet a handsome guy like you are, lad!" I swear he winked at me!
We cross the courtyard to reach the inner dungeon. It's eerily empty. Usually, in such places, you see men at arms training, you hear the clang of the blacksmith working, there is the bustle of peasants bringing food. Besides a few kids running errands, some women doing the laundry and a manservant fetching water at the hole, I don't see much people.
"Yessir" the grizzled soldier tells me. "They're gone to war"
"War? You mean these skirmishes in the south?"
"Aye, lad, true it's not the big english invasion" He spits. "But we're talking religion here. Some stupid fuck said there is only one true God and that everybody should rally him, whether they're OK with that or not. As our liege Lord is a serious defender of the old faith, he decided to help stop the rampage with all his might"
"I see. A crusade then".
I'm a free spirit myself. I don't like the idea there is one and only true true truth, even less when another guy forces it on me.
We're at the dungeon's entrance. He knocks the door with the heavy lid. It opens slowly. A cute girl in white,  fiery red curls cascading from under a cap is behind.
"Yes Connor?"
"Aye Jane. T'is some kind of jester. He trades stories for shelter. Thought the m'lady could fancy that"
Jane smiles. "Wonderful! I'll bring him to the Queen right away!"
"Now lad. I let you there. Hope you'll entertain the people in here"
He winks again! Strange place. I've been at courts a few times. It's usually much more formal.
We walk along stone corridors. Still this sense of loneliness. I see a few other white clad girls. It looks like all grown men went to war.
We arrive in the throne room. No trumpets, no guards. Just a beautiful, raven blacked haired lady. Her blue eyes look so sad.
"I almost forgot..."
Jane puts her hands all over my body.
"What the?" She even palpates my crotch !
She smiles and shouts "He's all clear m'lady!"
In a softer voice, for my ears only "I'd like to touch more of this"
Strange protocol, really.
Jane pushes my back and leave.
"What's your name, minstrel?"
I flourish my cape and make my best leg.
"The name is Ian milady"
"Are you a gentle man ?"
"I can tell you tales of Arthur and his Knights, defenders of courtly love"
"Knights. Again. Like my husband who left me for iron."
"Crusades can be the stuff of worthy epics"
"This war is a straw fire in the night. Wiccan faith is dying. And I am lonely"
The Queen rises, and I come to her. She gives her hand for me to kiss.
I kneel down.
"If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this:
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss"
The queen flashes a smile.
"You know your Shakespeare. I wonder how much honey you have on your tongue, bard. You may kiss me."
I stand. I cup the queen's face in my hands. Her eyes widen. I brush her lips with mine. Then we lock. My tongue darts in her mouth. She puts her hands on my back, clinging to me. I hold her.
She smells like due and peat, she tastes like the best whisky, making me feel a little dizzy.
"Mmmh, it's been a long time I've not felt the warmth and the strength of a man's body... But when I said #kiss me# I thought of my hand. I should sever your bold head from your cute body"
"Now I know why the thistle is your emblem. Flowers here are pricky"
She laughs a throaty laugh. "You know your courting too. You'll be at my table this evening to entertain me. Now, off with you. Jane is waiting at the door. She'll show you your room."
Making a girl smile can be much more rewarding than bedding her...
