Sharp's Deadly Sins poem inspired me to write this.
It's a trick, a trap, it's all a lie,
Don't you see they want you on your knees,
In abject fear, so you tremble and cry,
Its a tale they tell to keep you cowed,
To bend your knee or break your back,
For they can only rule whilst you are bowed.
There's no such thing as deadly sin,
Or sin of any kind;
Pride makes you strong and certain, don't falter,
Envy makes you work hard to catch up, keep going,
Wrath spurs you to protect and defend, don't fail them,
Gluttony is simple pleasure in your needs, embrace it,
Lust sparks a draw to wonderous conenction, joy shared,
Sloth is the reward for a job well done, rest easy,
Avarice grants enough to survive, save wisely,
These virtues help you pass many tests, just not in excess.
There's no such thing as deadly sin,
Or sin of any kind;
Stand tall and proud all you my fellows,
Don't let them drive you to the ground,
Embrace your feelings fierce or mellow,
You are not wrong to be who you are,
To think for yourself and use your mind,
So choose your path and you'll go far.
There's no such thing as deadly sin,
Or sin of any kind.
